More Balcony Seats!

The construction crew works on covering the roof truss over the balcony, which allowed the removal of our projection booth and the addition of more seats.

Roof Truss

To allow the removal of a pair of columns left in the balcony by the removal of our projection booth, a truss was designed to carry the roof load to the outside walls of the theater. The photos below show its installation.

Portions of the roof truss over the rear of the balcony are put in place by crane.

The truss is covered over in a layer of insulation.

The truss is covered in a layer of sheet metal and awaits its final layer of roofing.

The crane which was assembled here, is used to lift ductwork into the attic of the Opera House.

Workers install the roof flashings and prepare to start replacing the terracotta tiles.

One crane is used to attach an extension to another crane.

Large air conditioning duct segments are lifted to the roof of the theater
for installation in the attic.

Fire Tower Reroofing

The roofing crew works at clearing the tile off of the fire stair tower between the theater and the Donna Wolf Steigerwaldt Courtyard.

Truss Installation

A new truss is installed on the roof of the theater. This truss will carry some of the weight of the theater roof to the outside walls of the theater, allowing the removal of the projection booth columns in the center of the balcony.

The construction crew forms a human chain to speed the removal of the old roof tile around the Donna wolf Steigerwaldt Courtyard.

Roof Sequence Continued

The roof is prepared for the skylight.

Courtyard Reroofing

The old roof tiles are removed from around the Donna Wolf Steigerwaldt Courtyard. They will be replaced with new ones, true to the historic style of the Opera House.

Roof Sequence Update

Here is an update to the earlier sequence of photos showing the exterior changes to the Opera House.

The rear roof (which is white) has been completed and front building is waiting for the skylight.

Most of the windows have been re-installed.
